A-B-C MODE INTRODUCED (revised)

revised January 25th 2013

Following the success of the Super Final concept we are now introducing our new A-B-C final system. The system is very similar to what is being used in electric racing. After qualifying in heats you are placed in your own A-B-C or whatever Main final. In this final you race from a start position on the track that corresponds with your initial position in your final, for example, if you qualify 26th, you will be in the C-final, with start number 6 and will start from grid-start position 6 in all the finals.

This is particularly interesting in combination with the replay feature. When you view the replay of your own final all cars will start from positions 1-10. Of course having start position 10 in a final is a little disadvantage, just like in real r/c racing. But being number 10 in the A-final is still better than being number 1 in the B-final, right?

From Season 1 Round 3 the events will be ranked using the results scored in your own final, so when you finish the Elimination round in position 18 you will be placed in the B-Main with start position 8. The best result you can score in the event is 11th overall, even if your result would be good enough to finish 3rd in the A-Main. So it is important to qualify for the highest possible Main final! If you would not race in your final the worst you will score will be last in your final.

From round 3 of Season 1 onwards we have changed the format a little. The Quarter final has been renamed to 'Elimination' and you will be grouped in heats based on your qualifying, and start from your official position in the pit lane. This does not really matter as your clock will only start when you cross the start/finish line for the first time. The Main Final has been renamed to Final and only 40 racers will qualify for this last round of the event, so there will be 4 finals, A, B, C and D.

The results lists will be modified to reflect the new ranking method.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
What to expect in the future? Well, there are still a few things we like to improve. One feature is that the start procedure will start at 30 seconds and you drive to your start position rather than being airlifted from the pit lane to your position. If you are not on the right start position yet you will still be airlifted to it. This should make the start sequence more ‘natural’ so to say.

Ultimately we would like to let you race against your direct opponents in your final, virtually of course. We are able to send a replay file to you of for example the 2 cars in front of you and 2 cars behind you in the ranking of your final at the moment you start your race. So you know who you have to beat to improve, or keep behind you not to fall back. Of course you will race with collision off, but you will feel a lot more pressure racing with your direct opponents at the same time. This ‘virtual direct opponent’ system or VDO is the closest we can get to a multi-player kind of competition, time zone and latency issues prevent us of trying to set up such a competition system. Most likely you can opt in or out for this mode as it may affect your system's performance, especially when you use a less powerful PC or notebook.

Another feature we are looking at is to let you chose a 'target' opponent from the event list. The system will compare your lap times with the target lap times and will display either a green bar or circle (when you are ahead) or a red one when you are behind. Maybe we can scale this depending on how much difference in time there is.

We hope you like the new A-B-C system and remember, should make the racing more interesting!

Pieter

All Mains get 3 runs, but you cannot improve fiurther than your own Main. You will be racing against racers of your own level in the lower Mains, so that should be more interesting as well, especially now that we have the Replay files available where you can watch your own virtual race with the opponents in your final.

My proposal was indeed 3 finals for all, no chance to bump, but all of them counting with points.
As the ABC model is in place, why do we need so many phases in a race. I'd say free practise, qualification and final should be enough. No need to restraint on number of racers, everyone gets his 3 final runs, from final A to Z, so everybody has same event duration.

Sorry, I do not get this

For lower rounds (not the Main final), the ranking will be done by overall results. You can improve to a higher heat or main final in the next round. For example, if you start in heat 5 (41-50) and finish 18, you will be in heat 2 or B-Main with start position 8 in the next round

Could U explain further?

Great, VRC is getting better

Oh I'm sorry for that misunderstanding, yes I meant 1 or 2 days, not half a day. I see now it looks like a half, just in my head it was otherwise hehe. Glad you like it :)

Posted by: Jostein Smidt (GB) on 20.1.2013 0:26:20 (UTC) What's the problem of an event running for a while?

There is certainly a misunderdstanding, I'm not against the event running on two weeks, it's the opposite, I'm against a shorter event with Finals running on only half a day, but I think I found it : when you said "1/2 days" in a previous post, were you saying "1 or 2 days" or "half a day" ?
I thought it was half a day because Reece Hodges answer you like it was "half a day", and I was afraid that with this system, lots of people would have miss some runs.

If it's two days for each Final, then I'm all for this ;-)

Posted by: Jostein Smidt (GB) on 20.1.2013 0:50:09 (UTC) My suggestion: Quali - 3 days semi final - 2 days D final - 2 days C final - 2 days B final - 2 days A final - 2 days

OK for that ! :-)
