WOLLANKA RULES IN SHORT COURSE PRO MODIFIED

29.01.2014

report by Donald Stark (VRC race reporter)

2014 Season 1, Round 2 @ Padova

Pro Class Modified 4wd Short Course
After the dust settled from the 1/8th scale world championships at Padova, the track was still in good shape and ready to host round two of the Short Course series. Anytime Martin “the Wizard” Wollanka shows up, the competition has to be read to go. The first round of qualifying would prove this point as Martin piloted his car to a seven second win over Nicholas “Lunchbox” Loriot and the rest of the field. Loriot would however strike back in the second qualifier, grabbing the TQ spot for this event. Now the field was set.

The starting order was as follows:
1. Nicolas Loriot
2. Antoine Rossetti
3. Martin Wollanka
4. Barnabás Tóth
5. Eben Coetzee
6. Billy Caley
7. Francis Wathlet
8. Jerome djay Delcourt
9. Bryan Van Rijnberk
10. Claus Didriksen
Unfortunately Nicholas Loriot and Billy Calley didn’t make it to the starting line.

Little by little Martin Began pulling away. Eben ran a consistent second while Antoine and Barnabas leap frogged back and forth for the third spot. 3 laps into the race Rosetti made a mistake and dropped off the pace and Jerome Delcourt made up the ground on Toth and began to challenge for the three spot. As the 6 minute race drew to an end the battle had carried the two drivers within striking distance of second place but Coetzee was too smooth and held the two spot followed by Toth and Delcourt.

Sport Class Modified 4wd Short Course
The sport class is not a beginner class, nested in the middle of club and pro this class is for the drivers making a name for them selves and the working man who just want to compete at a high level. The young guns coming through will exhibit speed comparable to the pro times but they tend to be less consistent than the pro’s. While in the sport class they learn to maintain speed and gain consistency. When they ear the points they make the move to the pro’s.

This weeks shooting star is, Wolfgang Dobetsberger taking the class by storm in round 1 Wolf ran a comfortable 3rd in the A Main and this week he won by a lap. Robert “The Red Assassin” was able to stick a wheel in on him once on the first lap, after that it was all Wolfgang. His fast laps was a 35.2 with an average time of 35.7 with a final time of 11 laps in 6:34.97 this would have landed him in 9th place in the Pro A- Main.

Club Class Modified 4wd Short Course
The Club class is the starter class, I would call it the beginner class but it is not a beginner class. Most of VRC Drivers are avid RC enthusiast, they are joining to learn to drive consistent and pick up speed along the way for the real track. When you first Join VRC you are automatically placed in this class, drivers are can choose to place their self in the appropriate class or wait to make points in the series races to move up in the point system. Lap time in the A Mains would be competitive in the Sport class A or B Main, or Pro B- C Main.

This weeks hard charger was Ivan “The Enforcer” Taylor, he took the lead on lap 2 and never looked back. With a fast lap of 35.3 and an average time of 36.1 he is getting faster and more consistent each week.

VRC VS Real RC
The crowded drivers stand...

Real
At the track there is always a crowd on the drivers stand, I usually end up either stress out trying to fight for the best vantage point or frustrated because I didn’t want to be stress out and fight for the best spot on the stand. Then I spent the race trying to drive from the worst spot on the stand, usually behind a post.
VRC
In VRC I can drive from anyplace on the rostrum or from one of 10 TV camera points and even from the 1st person view like a video game. I never have to line up for a position in the next race.

The more I go to the track the more I love VRC...!

Stay tuned next week I will cover Open practice and the Hackers that smash your race car.

Have fun
Cya @ the Races.

We try to mix it up each week. Just one race each week. It is a lot of work, lots of fun too. Trying to keep it simple.
