The 278 m long Heemstede track was designed by Pieter Bervoets and built in 1982. The Model Auto Club Heemstede, one of the biggest clubs in Europe with 350 member, has hosted several major European and World events on this track. Italian Lamberto Collari won his first of 9 IFMAR World Championships on this track. The track was completely resurfaced in 2004, at the same time several infield curbes were flattened making the track very fast. The tricky part is the end of the back straight. Get this corner right and the following SS's are easy, get it wrong and you lose half a second or more. Website: http://www.mach.nl

2017 SEASON 1 1:8 SPORTSCARS ROUND 8 Heemstede 1

21.06.2017

Report by J-P.Huhtala

2017 SEASON 1 1:8 SPORTCARS ROUND 8 Heemstede 1

PRO level

Heemstede was hosting last race of 1:8 sportcars series in 2017 SEASON 1.
American super talent, double World Champion Joshua Berman dominated PRO level race. He was fastest in every round and won this race with style and showed how champ drives.
Irish driver Austin Elliot was the closest behind Berman in qualifying and practice. But It was a bit dull because Elliot wasnt at the grid when main final started.
Another American, Kevin Bacon was third in semifinal and started from third grid. Kevin had the pace, but he was totally out of rhytm. He made several mistakes during his run and these gave him huge 30 seconds extra. Portugese Nuno Lourenco got third place and was one lap behind Bacon when race ended. Nuno started from fourth grid, so he secured his position when Elliot retreated from the race.

Joshua Berman, PRO level SEASON 1 CHAMPION

SPORT level

SPORT level race was exiting. We saw great run by Thailands Rudolf Aigner. "Rudy" had found something special for the final. He started from the fourth grid, and with 14.9 average he totally crushed others.
American Steve Pitts who earned pole from semi, was second in this race. With average 15.3, he was one lap behind when race ended. Third in this race was Australian driver Steve Young. Like Pitts was one lap behind winner, Young was also one lap behind Pitts. So, differences were really clear in this level.

Rudolf Aigner(orange) found great pace for the final

CLUB level

Like Berman in PRO level, American Gary Crowell did the same in CLUB level. If Berman crushed others, Crowell totally hammered his fellow competitors. With 14.6 average, nobody couldnt challenge that. Another American, Manuel Weber came second, over 50 seconds behind Crowell. Japanese driver Isla Pesca was third.

Gary Crowell, SPORT level SEASON 1 Champion

Thanks Jupe, you are right. I could not find a rhythm for this event. But even so, Joshua is just a "Juggernaut" and even if I had a clean run, I wouldn't have been able to catch him.
