You can have the greatest Multiplayer Event Organizer platform but without the VRC Multiplayer Racing platform being great it will only be a great Multiplayer Event Organizer platform. Before taking the time to get the Organizer component dialed in you may want to dial in the actual VRC Multiplayer Racing platform. On a scale of 1 through 5 the current Racing platform is 3 at best.
1) Ping affects session performance. High Ping session with more than 3 participants experience lag. Lag affects handling. Handling affects fun. Fun affects participation.
2) Turn-Marshall Affects all drivers. In multiplayer sessions if a racer crashes and uses the turn-Marshall to get a fix every other car can feel the lag that is generated. If a car is jumping while a turn-Marshall is being used the jumping car will crash most of the time. If the car is going into a corner and another car needs turn-Marshall the car entering the turn will be affected either loose or tight. Join a multiplayer session and watch other cars while selecting your space bar turn-Marshall key and watch how out of control you will make the other cars, its fun.
3) Starting tone does not time up the same for all the racers in the session and its very obvious, cars crossing the finish line ahead of another will finish behind the car behind them if it is close finish, so don't give up even though the other car looks to be ahead it may actually not be ahead.
4) Multiplayer racing allows Follow view drivers to race against Rostrum view drivers. Don't get discouraged if other cars in multiplayer are much better than you as they may be using follow view. You should learn to drive follow view as most of the events allow it. Follow is view is easier, faster on 90% of the tracks, and does not require remote control driving skills. It is just like Mario Kart, learn it or get beat by it. The success of the actual Racing platform will never be successful as racing is combining two completely different skills and experiences together which is already a disaster for event racing and is for multiplayer racing. Only way to describe Follow View racing with Rostrum View is "ALLOWABLE CHEATING".
that's quite an anonymous post... why anonymous?
We are aware of some of the issues mentioned and we will address these if within our capabilities.
1) MPEO's will serve areas in time zones +/- 1 hour max to keep latency and lag down.
2) turn marshal issues: will need to take a closer look, maybe also related to latency due to bad connections/bandwidth/pc specs
3. this is up to the MPEO to 'throw out' racers with high pings (which he can monitor during a session). The MPEO can even 'ban' racers from his mp events when they don't meet the required bandwidth and ping.
4. View point will be defined in the round settings, as we do now for off-line events. Up to the MPEO to allow only rostrum view or leave it open

Of course, when an mp event organizer wants to use Discord voice he is free to do so. But I think the mpeo is busy enough running the rounds and sessions. And setting up all the members in Discord for a specific event is also quite a job.
I assume Voice has to be one-way communication probably from mpeo to participants...

Hi Pieter,
the current chat functionality is limited to the users who are in the multiplayer session. I think a MPEO must also communicate to the participants outside of VRC. Compare it with the live race and you could just communicate with the participants on the rostrum. ther must be a way to get in touch with all, e.g. when there are delaysin the events.
it would also be good to have voice communication which is more personal and easier than chatting/writing. When I race there is no way of typing, but speaking.

Will you have time to stay in every single session and be the Moderator to check what they are talking about?
It's a big security and personal risk and could be used for illegal activities!
The mpe organizer controls these chats, not me of course. He is the virtual race director, just like in real r/c. Consider this structure as running a race event but then virtual. Text is better for this purpose than speech.
The mp event organizer and the members can switch between these groups, it will be a new tab at the top of the chat. During racing the chat functionality is off.
Speech is not suitable for this kind of communication. Keep in mind that the chat functionality on Round and Session level is mainly for the mp event organizer to inform participants, for example that session will start in 3 minutes, and in session itself to give further instructions, start in x minutes etc. General chat is for mp event level chat.
Not sure what you mean with security risks?

voice communication is not planned, Discord should be used for that.
Our chat functionality for MP structure is:
- general chat (as now) for all members
- mp event chat only for members participating in mp event
- round chat only for members in specific round of mp event (like Round 2 Quarter final)
- session chat: only for members in current mp session (like round 2 Quarter final - Session 1)
In this way the MP event organizer can communicate with targeted groups of racers
If your round or session is not up you can only participate in the mp event chat.

Philip, It is the same as up to now, everybody in an MP session can read the chat, adding voice does not change any security or personal risk. In every chat/call you as a participant has to take care about the privacy of your data.
An MPEO would not be able to join every MP session, I think you are busy with other things. That was my intention to mention that there must be a way to reach all participant. Voice communication or something like Discord would be easier than setting up a separate chat functionality. If needed you can also set up your own Discord server or chat functionality to have it more closed and secured.
