This feature comparison sheet gives a good overview of the difference between v3 and VRC Pro. The conclusion is of course that only if your graphics card does not support pixel shader 2.0 or higher then you should race v3, otherwise go for VRC Pro: it's much better, you'll have a much greater learning experience and more fun.
