The long tube reduce interferences and jitter...
Lot of people just plug the adaptor in the back of the desktop and let hang the receiver and antenna long the metalic body of the computer... Or near a CRT or speakers... Very bad idea... Proximity of metal and carbone introduce lot of interferences...

Your antenna is a little wire, is it 2,4 Ghz?
If so then a docking station give the advantage to place the antenna in a tube and protect the end and uncovered GHZ/wifi, the effective antenna, its lenght is exactly the wave lenght of the signal, the better state and righness is this piece of wire, the better is the reception... so the docking station also increase the lifetime of antenna/receiver.
Yes, 2.4 Ghz in the picture, however im currently using FM Loooooong antenna "my transmitter bit the dust :|" should i use long tube for better reception on FM?
