Get better FPS performance
added: 13.08.2012
I've found that optimizing your graphics performance so that you get a smooth and high framerate is key to having an enjoyable VRC experience.
Follow these steps:
1) Make sure you have up-to-date graphics drivers installed
2) In Options > Graphic Options, there is a box which says 'Display framerate (FPS) in game'. Make sure this is turned on.
3) Also in Graphic Options, turn V-SYNC to OFF.
4) Click OK and go to Practice mode.
5) Look in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. There is your FPS counter. It should be above 60 to guarantee a smooth experience.
6) When you are racing in multiplayer, there will be more cars on the track, and your graphics card will be working much harder. Go and do some multiplayer races and make note of what FPS you are getting with 2, 3, 4, etc cars on the track. If your FPS is falling below 60, your experience of VRC will be affected.
7) Go back to Options > Graphic Options
8) The four settings that make the most difference in performance are 'Object Shadows', 'Player Dust','Opponent Dust' and 'Anti-Aliasing'
9) Try turning off Object Shadows first, click OK, and return to Practice mode to observe your FPS.
10) Your FPS should now be
significantly higher. This will improve your enjoyment of VRC.
11) (
From Frank Hattich - thankyou!) Another significant improvement to your FPS will come from switching Anti-Aliasing to OFF (on my PC, my FPS improved by 50 FPS!)
12) If you want even higher FPS, also turn off the Dust settings.
13) Other settings have a neglible effect on FPS (I've tried a LOT of settings, so take my word on this)
Hope this helps, if it does please rate this tip using the stars above this tip.
Happy racing!
Cheers
