David Joor from Houston Texas has written VRC history by winning the very first VRC Worlds in short course truck racing. But only just, after 10 minutes of racing he had just 0.09 seconds on Martin Sørlie from Norway and 0.52 seconds on David Barcena from Spain.
Joor found himself in trouble after hitting a marshal chair at the far left corner, costing him some 2.5 seconds. From then on it was a catch-up race for Joor and it took him till 25 to pass Barcena who made costly error on the table top, and in lap 30 finally got passed Martin Sorlie but with Marcena right on his tail. A fantastic win for David Joor, a Team Tekin team driver who generously passed on his first place prize sponsored by Tekin to runner up Martin Sørlie.

NATIONS RANKING
A total of 902 racers signed up for this first major short course event. As to be expected US drivers dominated the Nations ranking with David Joor (1), Rick Redmin (4), Kirby Backemeyer (5), Jim Edmonds (11) and Michael Clark (18) making up the US top-5 ranked racers. The French team finished 2nd, and Norway with the strong performing headman Martin Sørlie 3rd.
THANK YOU TEAM TEKIN
We like to thank Team Tekin for their support for the 2012 VRC Worlds, Pro4 motors and Team Tekin apparel are on their way to Martin Sørlie, Jim Edmonds (11) from the US and Darren Lord (55) from Australia. Almost all racers used the famous Tekin Pro-4 4600kV motor and RX8 speed controller to power their trucks.
WINNER PROFILE
“My grandfather got me my first car, Bolink Invader, back in 1984 when I was 10. The first time I hit a track was with an RC10 and was lucky enough to catch the attention of the top regional driver who took me under his wing. I never traveled to races outside my region until after I was discovered by Matt Francis in 96' for my off-road driving. But I was actually more versed in onroad and that year I TQ'd the ROAR Nationals in 10th Pan Stock and almost TQ'd Mod Touring car right behind Joel Johnson. This was my introduction to the industry, changing RC from a hobby to a sport for me. I have raced everything and my class of choice at the moment is 8th electric but my personal favorites are 12th Mod and 10th 2wd Mod Buggy.
Before starting my company, Avid Racing Concepts, I was branding other companies out there such as JConcepts, CEFX, and Kinetix. I was also an advocate of online forums to spread knowledge so I created the first RC vehicle focused forum called RC10B4.com and a Texas based forum RCFiles.com for companies and racers alike. My first venture into the industry was opening a carpet track in Austin but it was the wrong timing for success. Soon after Avid was born and even during the tough economy we have grown no less than 25% each year since we opened in 2003.
I took an interest in VRC a few years ago but I was racing full time and it was tough to work into my schedule, plus the lack of off-road. Now I can't make it to every event I like so I enjoying getting on VRC. What grabbed my attention about VRC is that I make the same mistakes while playing it as I do on the track. So it is good practice to work on keeping focus while under pressure, not over-driving after making a mistake, and controlling my pace. With the addition of 8th Nitro and hopefully 8th Electric, I hope to watch it continue to grow into the vast off-road segment of RC.”
