Season 2 Round 2 “RC Excitement” Fitchburg MA. USA

The week’s race was held at the “Snowball Off- Road Champs” track housed in RC Excitement, Fitchburg, MA. RC Excitement is the home track to a few VRC Racers such as Jim Edmonds, Josh Vulte, Edward Stover, and Shawn Handy. This is a tight track with plenty of turns, high traction and a few strategically placed jumps.

IN REAL RC, The Snowball Offroad Champs, was run in January of 2013 the average lap times in each category were 17 seconds with some of the top lap times dipping into the 16’s. Fast laps in VRC averaged 16’s and the very fastest lap average were in the 15’s. The VRC Track is scaled to the real track, the difference in VRC average lap times is due to the vast amount of practice drivers get in the game opposed to the real track visitors.

VRC Pro will be present at the 2013 RCX show at the Long Beach Convention Center on June 1st and 2nd. VRC was invited by the organizer to host what they call a special 'visitor attraction' at the show to give the public a virtual r/c racing experience. Dell/Alienware has provided the necessary hardware support setting us up with 8 of their X51 gaming PC's plus a full option Aurora PC. This setup is perfectly suited to run 8 car multi-player sessions for entry level visitors, visitors with some r/c experience and real r/c racers. With the Alienware Aurora system we will be projecting all the multi-player action in double HD on a big 3.5x1 m projection screen, so spectators can follow all the action. We are also planning to set up a PRO race for which we will invite r/c racers present at the RCX. Team Associated will help with logistics and Spektrum will provide their DX4S radios to hook up to our VRC 3NT USB adaptors.

Several VRC Pro racers from the Los Angeles area have already offered their help on the VR... read more

report by Donald Stark (VRC race reporter)

A season for change
This season the short course category has been expanded to include both spec and open class trucks. For most that means twice the races and twice the fun. Change is good and many good things have been added this season. The virtual opponent system, target player and a new racing format are a few of the changes VRC has rolled out with season two.
The open class is just that open to all chassis and motor combinations, while the spec class is limited to 13.5, 3300 or 17.5 motors. The spec chassis is also limited to the bare minimum set-up modifications. The Idea is to level the playing field with fewer settings to worry about so that racers can focus more on driving.

New Season New Format
The new race format for season two was also introduced. In the past there were more rounds and more tries per round. Each race started with timed practice, qualifying, elimi... read more

FIORANO TRACK RELEASED

The long awaited and very popular v3 track Pista Jody Scheckter, also known as Fiorano, is now released. This is one of the oldest on-road tracks in Italy, with typically a fast straight right in front of the drivers rostrum so they can hear the Italian racing engines scream at 46.000 rpm or more... The 298m long track features a tricky chicane on the opposite side of the track, hard to get right, but if you do there is up to half a second to be won there, or lost.

Right around the corner of the Fiorano track is the Ferrari F1 test track. If you visit Italy one day make sure to visit the Fiorna RC and Ferrari test track.

The first season of 2013 has come to a close and we’ve seen some very tight finishes, and some big surprises!

SHORT COURSE TRUCKS by TEKIN
The duels between 2012 VRC World Champion David Joor and Martin Wollanka continued throughout the season with Joor winning the season opener at Mikes 2 but Wollanka taking top honors in rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6 crowning him the Season 1 Series champion. Round 4 saw a surprise win by David Ronnefalk from Sweden at Silver Dollar Raceway. Marcin Malinski completes the Season 1 podium as a distant 3rd, just ahead of Backemeyer from the US and Sonnekus from Thailand.

In the Nations standing USA (Joor, Backemeyer, Redmin, Pahud and Hart) came out on top in SCT as to be expected, with France in 2nd and Austria in 3rd. The 6 events of this series saw a total participation of 726 racers, making it the most attended series in Season 1.
