SEASON 1 2017 RALLY X SPEC ROUND 5 Mach Rally X
Fifth round of Rally X spec serie was held at Mach Rally X track. American Ely Rojas was on fire from the start of this event. At qualifying his average was 24.866 and compared to others, Ely was on his own pace. Carson Yeung was second, over 8 second behind Rojas and Robert Hillman third, 6 seconds from Yeung.
Going for semifinal round, things were tighter. Yeung had raised his pace and was standing at second place, only 2.2 seconds behind Rojas. Rojas had average 25.1 and Yeung 25.2.
American Marshall Kirkholm earned third and Swede Robert Hillman fourth grid. Kirkholm had 12 and Hillman 14 seconds to TQ winner Rojas.
Things were looking promising for the main final, and we could only hope that Yeung at second grid had founded something for the final round. Yeung had the pace to challenge Rojas.
"There are many means", said Yeung as he swiped the table with cat
But it wasnt pace what this event needed, actually you needed also some GOOD LUCK.
Yeung, who started from second grid, was the only one, who didnt have any struggles with backstraight jump. He wasnt fastest, but with stable, consistent and precise driving he was first who came to checkered flag. Was it ”planned smart driving”, i think it was pure skill.
Rojas, who was on fire two earliest rounds, ruined his race with that jump. In total, he got several mistakes what costed him 17 seconds and that was just too much. Actually, even he was struggling so much, going to final lap, him and Yeung were side by side. Unfortunatelly, Rojas flipped his car once again on that particular jump and Yeung got the lead. At finishline gap was 0.132s.
Even Rojas and Yeung had charged this event from the begining, Hillman had also founded his pace for the main. Couple mistakes costed him 5 seconds and Robert had to settle to third place, 1.2 seconds behind the winner.
Robert Hillman was on podium once again
At SPORT level Hungarian Jozsef Valent and Lithuanian Arturas Svoba had great battle. At the end Svoba had to surrender and settle to second place, with tiny 0.5s gap to Valent.
American Corey Tadd was third, 3.3 seconds behind Svoba.
CLUB level driver David Lalanne was on his own. This 49years old French talent drove very good final, and indeed deserved this win. Anssi Hartikainen from Finland crossed the line in second place. Anssi had similar pace with winner, but one mistake ruined his chances to challenge Lalanne.
Hungarian Balint Rajki was third in this CLUB level race.
SPORT level win was solved between Valent and Svoba

Thank you Pieter, and at least there is also Kevin among us. He is doing fabulous job. Others should know that these are not supposed to be "long writings"....short and simple is great.

Nice report JP! Carson, that backstraight jump was same for everybody ;)
Hi Anssi, agreed that the jump factor is the same for everyone. I found that jump successful rate will increase if I take the jump at far side of the jump and I need to accelerate the car at the middle of the corner before straight. To make this acceleration effectively, I need to make the last turn a bit off the best cornering line so that my car can gain enough speed before take off from jump. This will slow down the lap time a bit but have better chance to survive in big jump. But seem that my choice is right in this race :) Your strategy worked really well and congrats of your victory. My strategy was only flatout :D

At PRO level, there was only 6 drivers at A-main. So, i`ve added three fastests from SPORT level(Valent, Svoba, Tadd) and fastest from CLUB level(Lalanne) to video.
