2016 SEASON 1 1:12 SPORTSCARS 10.5T ROUND 4 Oslo

02.03.2016

Report by J-P.Huhtala (VRC race reporter)

2016 Season 1 and round 4, Oslo

After three rounds had raced of this 1:12 sportcars 10.5 series, Graham Raistrick from Britain is leading the serie. Graham`s lead is not huge, Dana Bailes from USA is at second place, only two(2) points behind. Third place is held by Carson Yeung from Hong Kong.
Now, it was time to gather here at Oslo`s circuit in Norway.
This ”Europe tour” continues also in next two races, as those races are in Germany and Finland.

QUALIFYING
Nothing had changed, as qualifying round was held. Britain`s Graham Raistrick and USA driver Dana Bailes was setting the pace to other drivers. These drivers difference at the end was only 0.028seconds, Graham in the lead and Dana in second place. Third place went to Italian Massimiliano Tanturri, Massimiliano`s gap to TQ was 2.3 seconds. These three drivers at top, all got runned 33laps. Fourth place driver, Stefan Rheinwald from Germany, had over 8seconds margin to TQ.

RACE
From the tone of the start, it looked that these four at top of the grid, were very clearly aware, that start would be very important also in here. And so they did, they started very aggressively and race was on. Allready in corner three, our TQ Raistrick flipped his car and dropped all the way to last position. And also Bailes had some trouble in next corner, he little pit losted the grip or something, but Tanturri turned to lead and Rheinwald was second. After few laps driving, Rheinwald had turned to lead, as his pressure against Tanturri has maded this result. Bailes had also got his rhytm back after first lap trouble, and this was looking very good for this final. Everybody thought after qualifying that this would be three mans final but that wasnt true. Rheinwald had founded something special for this one and it looked very promissing. Of course this wouldnt be easy to win, but with that pace what he had, this race would be even more interesting,as there were at least four drivers to compete from victory.
In third lap, Bailes had lift to second spot and was pressuring Rheinwald very hard, Rheinwald was driving very tight line but Dana was there. Unfortunatelly when they came to turn one, was it too aggressive turn from Bailes but he flipped his car and dropped to fourth. Now Rheinwald got time to breathe a little, as Tanturri at second place was allmost second behind. Hong Kong`s Carson Yeung was driving at third place but Bailes was pressuring behind his tail. And this pressure made result, as Yeung flipped his car at turn four in lap seven. This mistake dropped Yeung to 8th position. At this point, our TQ Graham Raistrick, who doned his mistake at first lap, had done magnificent laps and was in fourth place. He was driving very close behind Bailes tail, 0.4 seconds and he was hungry. In the lead nothing had changed, Rheinwald was in the lead and Tanturri was chasing, but only 0.8 seconds behind. It was very nice to see that also other drivers could challenge Bailes and Raistrick, who were and are clearly Worldclass drivers.

Massimiliano Tanturri from Italia, drived clean, fast and consistent run. He deserved this win with great performance.

In lap 12, we got two mistakes in the leading group. Rheinwald cutted last corner of the lap, went little wide, rolled his car and Tanturri got the lead. This mistake took allmost two seconds and he dropped to second position. Other driver who made also mistake, was Bailes. He was turning to backstraight, he little pit touched inside line and rolled also his car. With this mistake, Dana dropped to fourth place behind Raistrick. Also when Bailes came to corner under the rostrum, he cutted also this one and went wide. This allowed Yeung to pass him and Bailes dropped to fifth place. That disaster 12lap, took 4 seconds from Dana`s result. Tanturri was in lead, 0.8 seconds margin to Rheinwald and Raistrick was running third, allmost two seconds behind Rheinwald. Allready in 14th lap, Yeung at fourth place had to surrender Bailes. Bailes was chasing and when they turn to backstraight, Yeung cutted and bailes got pass.
Next laps showed our leaders skills, Tanturri`s pace was remarkable, he was shooting all the time 14.6-14.8 laps and that was nice to look. But Rheinwald at second place hasnt surrended, he was pushing also very good laps and like i want to call this German driver as a ”swiss watch”…he was that. But this Italian worldclass driver Massimiliano Tanturri was pit stronger, pit by pit he gained his margin to Rheinwald and this allowed him little space to breathe. Raistrick had stayed at third place, 2.3 seconds behind leader and Bailes was at fourth, 1.3 seconds from the last podium place.

Stefan Rheinwald informed himself to group of Worldclass drivers. So magnificent racer he is.

In last lap our leader Tanturri, got little more heartbeats when he was coming under rostrum corner and cut this one. Luckily he survived that, and i could only imagine what was going in Massimiliano`s mind when he saw that coming. But finally this 48years old Italian Worldclass driver Massimiliano Tanturri did fantastic job. He run clean consistent final and deserved this win, so good and professional it looked. Great Job Max!
Second place driver Stefan Rheinwald, who doned one mistake in final, was 1.3 seconds behind the winner at finishline. At least now, everybody have to remember this name, because by this performance, he has joined to the group of VRC PRO Worldclass drivers. Congratulations also to Stefan!
Third place went to Britains Graham Raistrick, he was pit unlucky when he got that only mistake in first lap and dropped to last, but in the end he fighted very good final as allways. Dana Bailes in fourth place, his two flips in 12th lap gave him 4seconds extra time and he had to settle behind this trio, five seconds behind winner. Fifth place went to Hong Kong`s Carson Yeung, his distance at finishline was 11seconds to winner.

Once again this man was at the podium. Race after race, he just keep doing his spectacular performance. Graham Raistrick from Britain.

In SPORT level Lee Passehl from USA was setting the pace to fellow competitors, he wonned the race with very clear 8 seconds margin to German Thomas Klingen. Thomas didnt got easy final, he had to push real hard against Britains Mark Raddenbury. Raddenbury catched Klingen at 9th lap. when Klingen made mistake. At lap 12 Raddenbury went by to second place but all ready in next lap Klingen passed him. At 28lap Raddenbury made his bigger mistake, it took two seconds and Klingen got away. Last three laps, as Klingen drived clean laps, Raddenbury had to settle to third place. At finishline distance between these two was allmost 3 seconds.

In CLUB level Frenchman David Lalanne gave a knock out to others. He wonned the race with huge 20 seconds gap to second one, Syuichi Eguchi from Japan. Third podium place went to Tim Kinnett from USA, his gap to second place was 11 seconds.

Great report! I originally wasn't even going to do this round as I didn't think I was anywhere near quick when practising.

A great report as always, Jupe! Thank you again. Now also with the serie's overall introduction with facts about who enters this race on which overall position from the leaders. Again, very nice report with a very well edited video!
