Probably the biggest r/c track on this planet: Lostallo in Switzerland. With a length of 430m this track takes well over 20 seconds to go round, that is with a 1:8 scale racer. Lostallo is located at the south of the Alps close to the Italian border. The club has hosted numerous European and World Championships on this track. The sound of the cars when they come by on the front straight is absolutely amazing, and the Doppler effect makes it even more realistic. The infield is technical but never tight. The sheer size of this track makes it one you ought to have in your VRC track collection.

RIETVELD RUNS AWAY WITH THE VICTORY AT LOSTALLO

Round 4 of the 1/8 Nitro Sportscar Series took us to beautiful Lostallo in Switzerland where a large turnout of racers showed up to test their skills at the enormous track nestled in the valley. Qualifying was fast and furious. When the dust settled, it was Jeffrey “The Rocket” Rietveld (NL) who came away the top qualifying position. Rietveld, who is the reigning 2019 VRC PRO 1/8 Nitro Sportscar World Champion, has been on an absolute tear since his convincing win in December at the World Championship at Pegaso. Rietveld has claimed dominant victories in the first three events of the 2020 Series. Rietveld kept his finger on the trigger in qualifying and was the only racer to post a sub 20 second average lap. However, his heavy finger didn’t provide him with enough fuel to finish lap 16 and “The Rocket” had to call on a turn marshal to get back to pits to re-fuel to complete lap 16. Rietveld’s TQ run was 16 Laps in 5:58.066 (due to having to run a penalty lap for needing help to get back to the pits for fuel). Still his average lap (without pit stops) was an impressive 19.926.

Jeffrey Rietveld - Top Qualifier and first place.

Behind Rietveld there were 31 racers who were able to turn 15 laps in the 5-minute qualifier. Kevin Bacon (US) took the second qualifying position with a run of 15 laps in 5:00.410. Daan Haling (BE) was third with 15 laps in 5:02.108. Brian Poliseno (IT) was right on Haling’s tail taking the fourth position with a run of 15 laps in 5:02.670. Qualifying was extremely tight thereafter. In fact, less than 1.8 seconds separated the fifth-place qualifier Graham Raistrick (UK) (15 laps in 5:06.862) and last racer to qualify for the A-main, tenth place qualifier Tommaso Andreuccetti (IT) (15 laps in 5:08.652). Emanuele D’Amico (IT), Giorgio Mingotti (IT), Michele Dall’Alba (IT) and Alex Guillot (FR) qualified with times sandwiched in between Raistrick and Andreuccetti. Very close indeed.

Kevin Bacon was second.

When the green flag fell for the final round, “The Rocket” Rietveld shot out of the gates and never looked back. Rietveld’s speed and consistency enabled him to pull away from the field, eventually lapping everyone at least once. Rietveld ran away with the victory with a run of 89 laps in 30:14.498. His average lap without pit stops was 19.897. Bacon managed to maintain the second-place position, but still a lap down to Rietveld. Bacon finished with 88 laps in 30:18.696. Poliseno claimed the final podium position, about half a lap behind Bacon. Poliseno finished with 87 laps in 30:07.436.

Brian Poliseno was third.
