In the past months I have been working on updating the chassis to 2023 IFMAR/EFRA technical rules, with lower weight at 2350 grams and with the reduced weight also come lower yaw, pitch and roll inertias. This makes the chassis a lot more responsive. Since 2010 a lot of rotating weight has been saved with the use of lighter materials like graphite, titanium and ultra-light CNC machined parts which has resulted in lower inertias of all the rotating transmission parts in the car. This has a noticeable effect on acceleration. The 2-speed gear/pinion range will be extended to reach significant higher top speeds on long tracks like XTR, Lostallo and Melzo.
Also a lot of work has been done on the XTEC .21 engine and much progress is made with torque and raw power, even now running with 16% nitro. This is achieved by carefully adjust several key engine parameters which affect timing and combustion, more or less as what's done with real engines. Our physics model of the nitro engine contains over 60 performance related parameters so a delicate process to get it right!
I feel these improvements will bring the 1:8 nitro on-road class to 2023 level racing. It will most likely mean that all the existing track records will be shattered as to be expected when jumping from 2011 to 2023 performance level. On the current version XTR LT1 I have reached top speed of nearly 140 km/h!
These vast improvements will have to be tested by beta testers in the closed Beta Test environment. I will soon invite a selection of our best 1:8 on-road racers to join the beta test program. The new specification chassis, engine and fuel will most likely not be released for the upcoming Worlds but will surely be made available for 2023 SEASON 1. The 1:10 nitro touringcar class will also be subject to a similar significant performance adjustment.
I am very happy with the results thus far and I'll keep fine tuning with the help of our beta testers.
Enjoy the 2022 Worlds!
