24.03.2016 Video:
The 2016 SEASON 1 1:10 SC truck 13.5T SPEC round 5 race was held at the twisting, turning and off cambered NEO-9 where many great races have taken place on VRC. With the 13.5T motor, line can be limited or more difficult to take than with modified motors that create much more power. These races were each about who made the least amount of mistakes as with SPEC racing, time is difficult to make up. I am no artist but I will try to paint the racing picture.
In the pro class, the grid started out with Colby Waddell settling in at TQ followed by Sandro Cabreira, Sean Krause, Robert Hillman, Tony Dugan, Patrick Hofer, Tommaso Andreuccetti, and Christophe DELAMARE. Absent from the A-main in the pro class were Joan Espasa and Jiri Mara who qualified 6th and 8th respectively.
At the start of the race, Robert Hillman made a huge leap going from 4th to 2nd at the starting line only to fall back to last immediately from a wreck in the 2nd turn. Although he was down, he was not out and he passed two other competitors before the end of the first lap. Hillman never gave up as you will see. Colby held onto the lead for part of the first lap but a hard charging Sandro Cabreira earned a 0.174 second lead after lap one over Colby. At the end of the second lap, the top 5 were starting to pull away from the rest of the pack slightly with only 1.1 seconds separating the top 5. At the end of lap one, there was a 3.2 second lead on the 6th position.
During lap 2, Sandro had extended his lead over second place by 2 tenths of a second while Colby settled into second, Sean Krause third, Patrick Hofer 4th and Tony Dugan 5th.
After lap 5, Dugan made his way up from 5th to second but was still back from the ever growing lead of Sandro. Waddell remaind in third only .5 seconds behind Dugan with Hofer in 4th. In 5th place was a determined, persistent and quickly charging Robert Hillman who had posted an average lap time for laps 2-5 of under 29 seconds. In a fairly short time, Robert had once again positioned himself for a podium finish coming from last place after turn 2. What a charge.
The picture above is of professional VRC racer Tommaso Andreuccetti who made a slight mess of lap 1 and 2 which cost him over 7 seconds but he did not give up and put in a commendable final 12 laps all of which were 29 or 30 some seconds with a fast lap of 29.0 on lap 11.
As we came to the half way point and headed home, Tony Dugan, 35 from the USA, ran a 28.5 second lap on lap 6 to cut the lead from 1.1 seconds to only 0.5 seconds. On lap 7, Dugan ran a 29.0 and took the lead for good on lap 8 with another 28.5 second lap. Sandro had lead most of the time until Dugan passed him on lap 8 when Sandro caught a pipe coming onto the straight and although he did not need a marshal, it caused him to run an uncharacteristic 30.2 second lap. That gave Tony Dugan a 1 second lead and he never looked back finishing with over a 3 second gap to second place.
The real story of the race was Robert Hillman. By now, we know he made a mistake on the second corner that cost him at least 3 seconds. His first lap time was over 32. Throughout the race, Robert caught and passed people like an American police officer. On lap 8 he was in 5th. Lap 10, Robert was in 4th and only 0.29 seconds behind 3rd. He was driving hard towards another podium finish. However, Cody Waddell and Sandro Cabreira were racing great races as well. With two laps to go, Waddell, Cabreira and Hillman were within .3 seconds of each other. Cabreira had a small but costly bobble on the tricky turn 3 moving him from second to 4th with 1.5 laps remaining. Coming down the steps, Waddell and Hillman had gain about a 5 truck lead over Cabreira. Going into the final lap, Waddell only had a 0.07 second lead on Hillman. The race to the finish line was on. Neck and neck. Wheel to wheel. Spindle to spindle. Going down the steps for the final time, Waddell had pulled a 4 truck advantage. On the step up, Waddell went wide which was the safe route. Hillman took the more aggressive inside line. Both made it up the step up and Hillman closed the gap slightly. Turning onto the final straight, Waddell held exactly a one truck length lead. Going into the drop down on the final straight, it was the same. Drivers were looking directly down at their trucks. Jumping back out Waddell let off the throttle to get back on the ground quicker. Hillman kept it pinned. When they landed on the straight, Hillman literally jumped over Waddell and landed one truck length in front. Hillman landed perfectly straight without any wobble. Although Waddell appears to be closing, he could not catch Hillman before the finish line making for one of the closest finishes you will find. Hillman finishes second over Waddell by 0.05 seconds and in a close 4th, Cabreira finishes 0.6 seconds back of Waddell. What a finish.
I did an interview with Dugan after the race and all he said was he was going to catch Hillman for the points lead. Then he dropped the mic and walked away. It's on.
The Final results for the PRO class were:
1) Tony Dugan (2nd in points)
2) Robert Hillman (over all points leader)
3) Colby Waddell
4) Sandro Cabreira (4th over all in points)
5) Patrick Hofer
6) Sean Krause
7) Christophe DELAMARE (8th over all in points)
8) Tommaso Andreuccetti

Great report Tony. Why aren't your name shown as in other race reports?
And congratulations to the victory. As you said, the misstakes sorted out the Winner. But in this case I don't Think I would have won even without misstakes. You were very fast and consistent.
Colbys braking in the last jump on the straight might have been a misstake. In most other classes this is the fastest way in that section but not in this class.
I don't know why I do not show as a reporter. It's ok though. Not a big deal. Regarding the race, it's difficult to run an entire race without some type of mistake which I made 3 small ones. Yours was abnormal though as you made that jump every other time. It would have been very close between you and I. I can not get you in buggy yet. I know nothing about nitro so I am learning about engine setup. It seems I get more speed when the main needle is around 60 and the low needle around 74. I could use some help on this though. Thanks for the nice comments.
BTW: Your English is great. Did you spend time in the US?

I haven't experimented much with the enginge settings, I can't notice any differencies so I mostly work with the suspension.
I have only spent one month in USA a couple of years ago, but we have nine nationatilities represented of 30 employees at my work and we mainly do our documentation in English so I get some practise daily.

Its going to be fixed, this video issue. It has worked properly before, so guys will handle it. I made three months ago one report with three videos, and it worked well. And of course, ive got my own Youtube channel where im uploading my videos and im uploading with "puplic", so everybody can look those. Mostly im doing only PRO level video, but this issue has to be solved that there might be three videos...no doubt. It is so easy members to go to report and click upright wich video they want to watch, club, sport or pro.

That's strange. Do you think it would be easier if we simply used YouTube only so people could watch them there. If you think about it, not only can member watch them there, none members who might be interested can. I think we should create one YouTube VRC channel that is only for races. Honestly, it doesn't take me long to record races anymore. I can record one and prepare another.
BTW: Thanks for the Shadowplay and the comment. It is much better. NVIDIA is what I use although it's a bit older than yours. cheers.

Nice report Tony!!
Very same issue in this report as mine report about Electric 13.5 spec Messina. Even those videos are saved correctly, they wont show at right top corner of report. Ive posted this "problem" to Pieter and he should solve this IMMEDIATLY.
In my report guys allready did some repairs and they got those video correctly shown to report, but i had to record CLUB level race again. Once i saved those videos, they wont appear to right top corner of report and only first video(pro) is shown straight from report site.
So, Pieter will investigate why reporters cant do this properly but ADMINS can.
