RIETVELD RUNS AWAY WITH THE VICTORY AT LOSTALLO
Round 4 of the 1/8 Nitro Sportscar Series took us to beautiful Lostallo in Switzerland where a large turnout of racers showed up to test their skills at the enormous track nestled in the valley. Qualifying was fast and furious. When the dust settled, it was Jeffrey “The Rocket” Rietveld (NL) who came away the top qualifying position. Rietveld, who is the reigning 2019 VRC PRO 1/8 Nitro Sportscar World Champion, has been on an absolute tear since his convincing win in December at the World Championship at Pegaso. Rietveld has claimed dominant victories in the first three events of the 2020 Series. Rietveld kept his finger on the trigger in qualifying and was the only racer to post a sub 20 second average lap. However, his heavy finger didn’t provide him with enough fuel to finish lap 16 and “The Rocket” had to call on a turn marshal to get back to pits to re-fuel to complete lap 16. Rietveld’s TQ run was 16 Laps in 5:58.066 (due to having... read more

Martin Wollanka from Austria scored a well-deserved title in his 2014 VRC Worlds campaign. After having to settle for second in the 1:10 ISTC VRC Worlds right behind Kevin Pignotti, he managed to turn things around in 1:8 sportscars at Lostallo, driving to victory with a 4 seconds lead on, yes Kevin Pignotti. New kid on the block Jakub Rozycki from Poland was lapped by Wollanka at the very last lap of the race where he needed a last fuel stop as well to make it to the finish line in 3rd.
In the 1 hour final all finalists but Rick Yelle and Holger Wolf opted for a double tire change. Wollanka and Pignotti were on exactly the same pace and tossed the lead lap after lap.
