STEAM POWERED RACE SERIES 2017 1:10 ELECTRIC TC COLLEGNO
PRO level
British driver Reece Hodges has won STEAM POWERED race of 1:10 electric touringcars at Collegno circuit. This 19 years old talent was fastest also at qualifying round, hitting 17.458 average, he left Japanese driver Taro Matsuoka, 2.7 seconds behind.
Mainfinal was real tight, as Matsuoka was pushing in close range. But Hodges hold his nerves and won this race with 1 second gap to Matsuoka. Hong Kong driver Carson Yeung and South African Jason Hillcoat had great fight of last podium place. Fight was very tight and they swapped places few times, and heading for last lap, Hillcoat was at third place. At last lap, Yeung got better line and exit at turn two and this allowed him to pass Hillcoat. Yeung drove tight last curves and crossed the line in third place. Really enjoyable fight! Kevin Pignotti has added a second Worlds win in the 2014 VRC Worlds series, this time in 1:10 ISTC electric touring cars Open Class at Collegno Italy. The 18 year old multiple VRC World champion had to battle it out with his main rival Martin Wollanka from Austria who finished 5 seconds down on Kevin in 2nd, and Brandon McBain from Australia who completed the podium in 3rd 9.5 seconds behind the winner.
Drama for Toth
But it was a much closer call for Pignotti than the results show. The A-Main final was a 15 minute race which would mean at least 1 battery change somewhere in the middle of the race. But 2 finalists had opted to go the full distance on just one 7200mAh LiPo pack, Barnebas Toth and Dana Bailes. Toth was still using a 4.5T motor but must have adjusted the speed controller in such a way that he would be able to make the 15 minutes, costing him about 3/10 of a second on average, but that would about work out on a 52 lap race. Bailes had opted for the 5.5T mot... read more

Not the fastest but the smartest and therefore the 2014 VRC World Champion 1:12 Open Class. Rick Yelle (US) had the patience to come out on top after the 16 minute A-Main, with Dana Bailes (US) 4 seconds and Martin Wollanka (A) one lap down completing the 2014 podium.
Rick knew that he had to come up with something smart for the double-length A-Main and to try to go the whole distance on just 1 battery charge as that could save you almost 20 seconds or about 0.3 seconds a lap on average. So he did a number of quarter distance runs to measure the amp usage with different settings on the speed controller, 97% power, low braking, optimized gearing etc. until he found a set-up that would get him to the finish on one charge. Also Atsushi Hasegawa, Graham Raistrick and Hiroyuki Shoda had opted for this strategy. Having a milder set-up than in his qualifying run (2nd), Rick had an incredible consistent run with just one small crash which cost him 3 seconds, to finish with a race average of 15.553 seconds with a f... read more
